This is a small experiment with a holographic filter. Not the kind of filter you get by clicking a button, but the kind you hold in front of the camera lens as you take a photo and it covers your image in dancing rainbows. 

 

I'm not against digital photo editing, actually I love it. But there's something to be said for using handmade tools in our creativity, I say it a lot, "make art with your hands" ...but this is one step further... make the tools you make art with, with your hands!

To make this holographic filter I took children's trick 3D glasses and cut them to make a small disk I can hold in my fingers. The real experiment is in getting the light to come at just the right angle...these shots worked best with the sunlight coming in directly from the side.
