THE JONES CAVE

A little space refresh can go a long way. In the Jones home (which also happens to be my studio at the moment) we have always rearranged our furniture regularly. We are constantly searching for the best use of our space and light. Our space is designed with our friends in mind. We have a lot of people come through our home and our space needs to work, it can't just look pretty in a photo.

But the biggest benefit of regular rearranging is through the undeniable connection between your physical space and your head space. A fresh direction of the table can be as inspiring as a fresh direction in life!

When I first set up my edit suite at home, I wanted it pointed to the ocean. We are lucky enough to look out over long reef headland from almost every corner of our home and I was sure that if I could see that gorgeous stretch of blue, I would be inspired to create marvellous things. So when it came time for our monthly rearranging I was reluctant to shift my desk. However I needed more room, so on a trial basis I turned my computer to the wall. Well it turns out that what I thought was inspiration was actually distraction! I couldn't believe how refreshing it was to face a blank white wall with nothing but my screen. The effect was like chocolate for my mind. Instantly soothed by the wall, I haven't turned back and leave the gazing out to the ocean for my daily day dreaming sessions.
